Those who study to know it are next; those who are limited and yet study are next; those who are limited and do not even study are considered to be the lowest level of people. How it filled my ears! If you try to please him in any way which is not accordant with right, he will not be pleased. If he is not learned, then he will not be on firm ground. When the prince sent him a gift of undressed meat, he would have it cooked, and offer it to the spirits of his ancestors. If he love righteousness, the people will not dare not to submit to his example.
About Confucius Confucius [ BC], though of noble descent, was born in humble circumstances. I hate clever speech, because it undermines the state and the clans.
If he does go abroad, he must have a fixed place to which he goes. Lu, by one change, would come to a State where true principles predominated. But I would wait for one to offer the price. The Master told them not to, but they did it anyway. If I aspire for ren it is right here!
However, in this case, Confucius’ attitude is reminiscent of that of Zhuangzi, who always recommended that intelligent people not accept the norms of a decadent world, and retire in solitude instead. But if you abide in easygoingness and are also easygoing in your activities, wouldn’t that be excessive? Commentators suggest that Confucius was disillusioned to find that things in Wei were no better than in Lu.
When the government is unjust he can roll up his principles and keep them in his breast. Is it not that you be a flatterer?

And, moreover, his ability is various. With friends, the shi is clear but kind. If regular people pf the Way, they become easy to employ.
When the Tang and Wu dynasties combined, they had as many ministers as you, with a woman and nine men. Confucius’s political beliefs were rooted in his belief that a good ruler would be self-disciplined, would govern his subjects through education and by his own example, and would seek to correct his subjects with love and concern rather than punishment and coercion.
He does not exercise his judgment upon matters. Ran You and Zi Gong were affable. Although his food might be coarse rice and vegetable soup, he would offer a little of it in sacrifice with a grave, respectful air.
What problem could he have in handling government work? It is the appointment of Heaven, alas! You should employ them [appropriately] according to the seasons. If a man lacks ren and his dissatisfaction reaches an extreme, he will rebel.

In regard to the use of his ears, he is anxious to hear distinctly. He avails himself to people of the Way cpnfucius thereby corrects himself.
You Zi Lu has a tendency to jump the gun, so I restrain him. Therefore, the superior man does not practice them.
Confucius was an expert on the proper handling of all sorts of rituals. The wise take advantage of ren. It has been four generations since the government came under control of the Councilors. That is about all that can be said of them. If a man in selecting a residence do not fix on one where such prevail, how can he be wise?
